Throwback Thursday - Hair Care

Welcome back to...

Thanks go to Ashleigh for stepping up with the posts and keeping things moving while I was away. Best friends and co-bloggers are awesome like that.

Approximately 6 months ago I changed my entire hair care routine from one I had been using for 10 years. It was not an easy choice to make. After all, 10 years is a long time.

Why change? Well, let's find out!

10 years of...

Herbal Essences was my go to. Due to the consistently changing formulas and products I can't tell you which shampoo and conditioner I used most. I can tell you that I selected varieties that were targeted for volume, as I have very fine hair.

If for some reason my type of Herbal Essences was out of stock, I would pick a similar Garnier product.
I'm sure you have all heard if it's not broken, don't fix it. I agree, but something changed.

My hair went through a change. It went from producing plenty of it's own oils, to hardly producing any. Easy fix right? Change to a moisturizing formula and life would go back to normal.

Wrong! Not only did the moisturizing formulas weigh my already fine hair down, but they didn't work. After trying everything Herbal Essences I switched to Garnier. From Garnier I moved to L'Oreal. I think you can see where this is going.

For a year and a half I bounced around from product to product. From drugstore, to salon only, and even imports. I got the best results when using sulfate-free and natural ingredient products, but I never fell in love with a particular one. At least, until I went to Costco.

Out with the old, in with...

I was bored at Costco, so I went to look at the beauty product section. That's when I saw this. Shampoo and body wash in one? Well, that's cool. One less product in my shower. Natural ingredients...even better.

I had heard of The Honest Co. before. Birchbox had sent some subscribers (not me) the healing balm for winter hydration. I may also happen to have a huge girl crush on Jessica Alba. Her style is amazing, and I watched Dark Angel in high school.

What alarmed me was the price. How could something so pure and good for you cost so little? I picked it up and took it home. After all, I was desperate to find something that worked and it wouldn't be a total loss. I could still use it as just a body wash.

I fell in love. Not only did it lather beautifully, but I hardly had to use any of it. The smell was not too strong and my hair started to behave itself again. I dove head first into researching the company. Was it really that easy? Could I really get almost all of my hair and body care essentials from one company? Would they all work the way I wanted them to? Were the ingredients eco and sensitive skin friendly? Would I be able to afford it all?

The answer to all of my questions was yes. I now get my shampoo/body wash, conditioner, lotion, lip balm, and more from the company. I even changed my cleaning and household products. I can now clean my house without feeling (or getting) ill from all the chemicals and freshly washed clothes no longer make me itch.

Recently, as in this month, the company started a partnership with Target. Now people can purchase products from the company in-store, instead of online only (with the exception of Costco). This is a HUGE CONTROVERSY! They started the company as online only to reduce costs, carbon footprint, and to personalize customer service. My thoughts on it are simple. If they keep their costs the same, if they don't cheapen and/or change the ingredients, and if they stay true to their founding principals...GOOD FOR THEM!!! I order a bundle of products (beauty and cleaning) each month. I've had times that I ran out of something a week before my next shipment. Now all I have to do is run to Target and pick some up. Don't worry, I'll be using cash only ;)

That's it for today. If you have any questions about The Honest Co. or want more details on the products I use leave me a comment.
