Some of you are probably wondering what on earth happened. Posts were being made regularly and then POOF! The blog has been silent for a few days, and here's why. We try not to have the same person post back to back. That way you hear from both of us regularly. Sadly I am recovering from having my stomach pumped due to a severe case of food poisoning. Talk about a miserable experience!
Now that I am on the mend, I thought I would post today and save tomorrow's post for next week. The reason for this is twofold. First off, one of the products I want to use has run out and my shipment has not arrived with the replacement yet. Don't worry, it's due to be delivered soon. Secondly, I'm still recovering and the color hasn't fully returned to my face yet.
For our first (and possibly only) Throwback Thursday I wanted to share two products. One, a product I used to use and my love/hate relationship with it. Two, the product I replaced it with.
The Old Product:
This used to be the ONLY foundation I could wear. Back in the late 90's and early 00's it was the only product of it's kind I could get my hands on. Keep in mind this was before I switched to shopping online and before Sephora and Ulta made an appearance in my location.
There was a lot to be desired from this kit. I know a lot of people swear by it and may get grouchy that I'm badmouthing it, but remember everyone is different!
My issues seemed to be never ending. The coverage was very light. No matter how many times I went into the store and got help from an associate or watched the DVD I got the same light coverage. As a teenager, light coverage is not what I wanted!
Not only did it have light coverage, but if I didn't use their Prime Time primer forget about it staying longer than 2 minutes! Even with the primer it didn't stay long, maybe a few hours. It usually got me from the start of classes to lunch.
Mineral veil, oh the mineral veil. The concept was great, and it did reduce the shine I typically get after applying a lot of makeup. The amount I had to use however left a fine white layer over my foundation. Once again, when going back to the store to see if I was using too much the associate actually used more of the product than I did!
Add into the above the time this kit takes to apply, the cost, and how easy it was to have a powder mess....simply put, I was not a happy teenager.
There are a few things I liked, so don't think this is all negative!
The makeup brushes that came with the kit enlightened me into the world of using higher quality brushes. The ingredients were also very kind to my sensitive skin. After all, that's why I used it!
The kit will last a long time. They say it's about a month or so worth of product, but mine lasted twice as long. Another plus? The company continues to update and improve it's formulas to make them more effective and safer for your skin.
The New Product:
When Tarte first came out with this product I ignored it. I had been on the powder route before and it was not a good experience. I'd currently been using multiple brands of liquid foundation, trying to settle on the right one. The liquid had the coverage I wanted, but often I would look like I'd just worked out! No matter what primer, makeup setting spray, or finishing powder I used I would end up with shine, or worse break out. Turns out that my sensitive combination skin really needs a powder foundation.
That was not something I was happy about. Powder...settles into fine lines, can appear chalky, light coverage, the list can go on for ages. I'd spent all this time and money looking for the perfect liquid foundation and now I had to do the same thing with powder.
This was the third or fourth powder foundation I tried out, and once I did I didn't buy anything else. There might be a better powder foundation out there, but this one works for me! The powder doesn't settle, has buildable coverage, stays fairly matte, and doesn't irritate my skin. Since it's a powder it takes the finishing powder out of my routine. I'm sure I could use a finishing powder over this if I wanted to stay matte longer, but I don't feel the need as I don't get quite as shiny with this as I do with other products. Another bonus is the mesh "gate" over the product. I have not had a powdery mess while using this. That put a big smile on my face as loose powders and I can tend to make the makeup counter look like a mad scientist experiment.
Tarte and the retailers that sell this product advise you to purchase the Tarte Airbuki Bamboo Powder Foundation Brush. I did not purchase the brush. I have used bareMinerals, EcoTools, and Sephora Airbrush brushes with this foundation. They have all worked without any issues. I may purchase the brush in the future just to see if it makes the application and end result even better. According to the reviews, it will. I guess we'll find out.
That's it for today!
