Hey everyone! Earlier this week I ordered the Divergent Multi-Piece Collector's kit, and it arrived today!
This is a limited edition collection and is currently available for VIB members only at Sephora.com for $59.50. At first I was a little hesitant about the price, but with three eyeshadow palletes, one blush palette, four lip glosses, and a brush, you are getting a lot for your money. The front of the box has a picture of a ferris wheel on it. Anyone who has read the book will know that the ferris wheel is from a scene where the main character grows and strengthens.
Inside, the four palettes form the same image of the ferris wheel when sitting side by side.
Let's explore the kit!
Inside the kit there is a pocket on the lid that holds three Get-the-Look cards. The front has a day look, while the back has a night look. There's a look card for 3 of the 5 factions: Dauntless, Erudite & Abnegation. (We'll ignore the fact that the Abnegation would NEVER wear makeup because that's selfish and completely against their beliefs). Each of the eye palettes corresponds to one of the factions as well.
Next is this Double Ended Eye & Cheek Brush. I really like the cheek side of this brush. It's duo fiber and nice and dense. It'll be great for contouring or applying blush. The eye side on the other hand I don't care for. You couldn't really do an entire eye look with it, it's too dense to do any real good blending. What this brush will probably be good for is contouring. Use the cheek side for face and the eye side to contour the nose. Once I get a chance to use it I'll let you know.
Left to right: Supreme Ritual, Natural Virtue, Temptation's Choice & Fear Not
These are the High-Shine Lip Glosses. All of these are in the pink family and are pretty sheer. Temptation's Choice is the only one that has sparkle in it. They have a minty smell, but I don't feel like they have a lip plumping effect to them. I personally don't find them sticky at all and I'm obnoxiously picky about the stickiness of glosses.
Left to right: Obscure Coral, Misty Rose, Gleaming Pearl & Intelligent Bronze
The first palette is the Long-Wear Blushes in Obscure Coral & Misty Rose, Radiant Glow Illuminator in Gleaming Pearl, and Shimmering Bronzer in Intelligent Bronze. Misty Rose is the only matte in this palette, there's no glitter but even the bronzer has a sheen to it. I doubt that the bronzer will make a good contour shade just because typically only matte shades do well but we'll see.
Before I go into the colors in the three eye palettes I wanted to show you how interesting they are. Each palette contains four High Pigment Eye Shadows and one High Gloss Transforming Eye Shadow. The high gloss transforming eye shadow can be seperated from the palette as you see in the picture above. You can mix and match this eye shadow with the palettes depending on the look you're going for. I haven't seen palettes like this unless you count the clip together eye shadows.
Left to right: Choose, Burnt Mahogany, Radiant Initiation, Peaceful Shimmer & Humble Sheen.
This is the Erudite Eye Palette and it's pretty neutral. As you can see the High Gloss Transforming Eye Shadow is pretty much just glitter. It does have a slight peachy/gold tone to it but it doesn't show up on skin really at all. These kinds of eye shadows are meant to be layered over other colors to really make them pop but I was a little disappointed. But look at that copper shade! It's beautiful! I don't quite understand what the deal is with the mahogany, I would think that color name would be better suited for a Hunger Games Palette!
Left to right: Diverge, Dauntless Ink, Abnegation Stone, Erudite Sapphire & Serene Vanilla
This is the Dauntless Eye Palette and my favorite of the three. You can't really see it in the swatch but the High Gloss color is very olive & beautiful, this is the only one of the three that could be worn on it's own. I also love the Abnegation Stone, which is a pretty satin taupe and Erudite Sapphire.
Left to right: Transform, Bold Espresso, Intrepid Moss, Golden Honesty & Altruistic Almond
Finally we have the Abnegation Eye Palette and again it's very neutral. The High Gloss color is another one that doesn't show very well, more of a silver glitter. A couple of the colors in this palette are very similar to ones in the other two, just with different undertones. I do love the Intrepid Moss & Golden Honesty though.
Overall I'm excited to use this kit and see what it really has to offer. I think some of these products will be great, while others might fall short.
Hope you enjoyed my first impressions of this kit. Once I start using it I'll try to remember to post a look!
