Urban Decay Master Class & October Makeup Challenge Update #2

Double post today! I forgot to do my October Makeup Challenge update yesterday, so look for it at the end of this post! For now though let's talk about the fun event I got to go to this morning!

A couple of weeks ago on a shopping trip to my local Ulta, the cashier told me about an upcoming class at the store. A local Urban Decay make up artist was going to be coming in and teaching the Urban Decay Master Class before the store opened. She asked if I wanted  to sign up. Well of course! I haven't been able to attend one of the Sephora classes yet, so I thought this would be a fun thing to do and would give me a chance to learn hands on with a make up artist.

The class was today and let me tell you, it was definitely worth getting up early on a Saturday! The store opens at 10am so the class started at 9am, ours started a little late though. When I arrived they had little stations set up and the Ulta artists were going around color matching everyone to the UD Naked foundation.

Our two UD makeup artists were Stephanie and Cory. They were really nice and very helpful. Stephanie focused on describing how do to UD's three signature look types: Fun, Feminine and Dangerous. She instructed everyone to pick a type and try to create an eye look that went with that word. Every table had their own Vice 3 palette to create a look with. The Ulta Artists and Cory were walking around giving tips and helping everyone, but everyone did the makeup themselves so they could go home and re-create the look. Stephanie also covered eyebrows, foundation & concealer application, contouring, and a little bit on lip color.

This was my finished look:

It was nice to go back and touch base on some of the basics, while still picking up new tips and tricks. Stephanie helped me with my cat eye wing, gave me a new way of applying my under eye concealer, and gave me a tip of filling in my eyebrows. Most of my classmates were fairly new to makeup, so Steph had a couple of us stick around for more "advanced" time afterwards. They all did a really great job at giving positive feedback and one-on-one help.

They had a couple of free gifts with purchase that only the class attendees got, so it was nice to have some perks on top of the awesome learning experience.

I would really suggest this type of class to everyone, no matter what your comfort level with makeup is. Even if you think it's going to be too basic for you, it's nice to touch base on those basic concepts because you never know what you might learn to do a different way. I also thought it was awesome that Stephanie took the time to sit with the more advanced group and still taught us each something new.

At the end of the day I wound up getting the Vice 3 palette and a Revolution Lipstick in Jilted. I qualified for one of the gifts with purchase which came in a really cool bag and had three different samples in it.

Now time for my October Makeup Challenge Update #2!

This week mainly involved quick looks because I had a hard time getting up in the mornings.

Saturday: I went over to my Mom's house to have dinner and see my brother who was home from college for the weekend. Since my Mom happens to be one of those people who always comments on how I never wear makeup, I took the time to do a look that day and the tutorial for that look will be up on Tuesday.

Sunday-Thursday:  BB Cream is my friend. Everyday I woke up, threw on some BB Cream, concealer, cream eyeshadow, mascara, cheek tint, and a jumbo lip pencil. Quick & simple was the theme. By Thursday I was done with this look in under 10 minutes. I don't see any reason why I can't continue to do this simple look every morning after this challenge is over.

Friday: This was my day I was supposed to wake up in time to do a full face of makeup. Sadly that didn't happen, but I did make sure to do a little extra than the previous days. I'm not one to ever wear blue eyeshadow, so I worked a little blue into my look and even did a nude lip! Way out of my comfort zone! I really enjoyed the nude lip after getting used to it, I'll definitely try to do that more often to kind of even out a bolder eye look.

Check in Tuesday to see the eye look from last Saturday. There won't be a Top Two Tuesday this week as I'm currently having a dilemma naming my top two eyebrow products!

Till next time,

<3 Ashleigh

  1. I just signed up for this at my Ulta! Very excited. Just wondering if I should show up with no makeup on for the class?

    1. Amber, I am so sorry that we missed your comment. Amanda and I have had quite a lot going on in our personal lives and sadly we had to let the blog slip into the background for a little while. We'll be back up and running soon.

I hope you enjoyed the class!
